Barcelona's hopes of landing Inter Milan's defensive star Alessandro Bastoni are fading fast, leaving the Catalan club reportedly 'disappointed' as the transfer saga takes a decisive turn.

For weeks, rumors have swirled linking the Italy international with a summer move to Camp Nou, especially after Bastoni played a key role in Inter's Serie A title triumph over the weekend. However, according to Italian outlet La Gazzetta dello Sport, the deal is now stalling—and the reasons behind it reveal a classic tug-of-war between the player's loyalty and Barcelona's financial constraints.

Inter president Beppe Marotta previously acknowledged the interest, stating: "I won't deny there is interest from Barcelona, but nothing concrete yet." That "nothing concrete" has now become a major obstacle. Bastoni, it seems, is in no rush to leave the San Siro this summer, and Inter are playing hardball.

The Nerazzurri have placed a €70 million price tag on the left-sided defender, but Barcelona were hoping to negotiate a discounted fee closer to €50 million. To secure that bargain, the Blaugrana needed Bastoni to push for a move, forcing Inter's hand. According to reports, that hasn't happened, and Inter have no intention of letting their star defender go for a cut-price fee.

This impasse highlights Barcelona's ongoing financial struggles under LaLiga's strict spending rules. Over the past two seasons, their only permanent signings of note have been Dani Olmo (€58 million), Joan Garcia (€27 million), and youngster Roony Bardghji (€2 million)—a modest haul for a club of their stature. Dropping €50 million to €70 million on a defender, no matter how talented, is a significant gamble.

Some pundits suggest Barcelona would be wiser to prioritize a new striker over a defender, especially given the team's attacking needs. For now, though, Bastoni's future remains in Milan, and Barcelona's disappointment is a reminder that even the biggest clubs can't always get their man.
