One Big Ten school maintained its perfect score in this complete, 18-team academic progress rate football rankings.

When it comes to college football, the Big Ten isn't just about powerhouse programs and fierce rivalries—it's also setting the standard for academic excellence. The NCAA's latest Academic Progress Rate (APR) scores are in, and one Big Ten school has once again achieved a perfect 1000, proving that success on the field and in the classroom can go hand in hand.

For those new to the term, APR is a team-based metric that holds schools accountable for their student-athletes' academic progress. Each athlete on scholarship earns a point for staying enrolled and another for maintaining eligibility. The team's total points are divided by the maximum possible, then multiplied by 1,000 to get the final score. While the current-year APR is important, the rolling four-year average is what truly determines postseason eligibility—programs must maintain an average of 930 to compete.

But APR isn't just about avoiding penalties. As Minnesota's 2023 squad discovered, it can also serve as a critical tiebreaker. When 5-7 teams are needed to fill out bowl schedules, the highest APR often gets the nod. So, these numbers carry real weight.

The NCAA recently released the updated four-year composite covering the 2024-25 school year. Here's how all 18 Big Ten programs stack up, along with a look at how they've shifted from last year's rankings:

Last Place to First? Not Quite. Despite a solid 10-point increase, Penn State still finds itself at the bottom of the conference. Meanwhile, Oregon has made a dramatic leap—swapping places with the Nittany Lions and jumping 12 points overall. It's a tale of two trajectories.

Holding Steady. Maryland and UCLA haven't moved in the rankings, but there's reason for concern. The Terrapins dropped from 962 to 960, while the Bruins also saw their score dip below last year's mark. Consistency is nice, but trends matter.

Small Drops, Same Spots. Michigan State is another team that maintained its ranking despite a one-point decline—similar to Maryland's situation. It's a reminder that even small changes can signal bigger issues down the road.

Falling Fast. Purdue is the first program to actually lose ground in the standings, dropping four points overall—the second biggest decrease so far. And while Illinois managed to boost its score, they're still playing catch-up in a conference that's raising the bar on academics.

Whether you're a fan of the maize and blue or the scarlet and gray, one thing is clear: in the Big Ten, excellence isn't just measured in touchdowns and tackles. It's measured in progress reports, too.
