The New York Rangers organization is undergoing a significant offseason shakeup, and the changes have now reached their American Hockey League (AHL) affiliate. The Hartford Wolf Pack have fired head coach Grant Potulny, along with assistant coaches Jamie Tardif and Paul Mara, the team announced on May 3.

Potulny had been at the helm in Hartford for the past two seasons, taking over after Kris Knoblauch departed to become head coach of the Edmonton Oilers. Tardif had been an assistant with the Wolf Pack since the 2022-23 season, while Mara joined the coaching staff in December 2023 after initially being hired as a player development assistant that August.

The decision comes after a disappointing campaign for Hartford, which finished last in the Atlantic Division with just 60 points and missed the Calder Cup Playoffs for the second straight year. It was a tough season all around for the Rangers organization, as the parent club also finished at the bottom of the Eastern Conference.

The coaching staff overhaul isn't the only change happening within the Rangers' development system. Jed Ortmeyer, the team's director of player development and a former Blueshirts forward, has left to pursue other opportunities. Stepping into that role is Tanner Glass, who had served as the assistant director of player development since 2019.

These moves signal a renewed focus on player development—an area that has been a known challenge for the Rangers in recent years. However, there is a bright spot on the horizon: young forward Gabe Perreault is quickly emerging as a future star. Perreault made his NHL debut on November 10, 2025, and has already tallied 27 career points (12 goals, 15 assists) in his young career.

As the Rangers look to rebuild and retool, all eyes will be on who steps behind the bench in Hartford next season to help guide the next wave of talent.
