Nuku Mafi may be the most underrated player from Purdue’s portal haul.

Every transfer class has its headline grabbers, but sometimes the real gems are the ones flying under the radar. That's exactly the case with Nuku Mafi, arguably the most underrated addition to Purdue's 2025 portal haul.

Mafi arrives in West Lafayette as a redshirt sophomore with three full seasons of eligibility—a massive win for a program that desperately needs to shore up its offensive line. While his transfer portal rating (3-star, 86) won't turn heads, his on-field résumé tells a much louder story.

Last season at Oklahoma State, Mafi started all 12 games, logging 791 snaps at left tackle (with one start on the right side). Even more impressive? He was flagged for just a single penalty all year. That kind of discipline is a coach's dream, especially for a young lineman thrown into the fire as a redshirt freshman.

Coming out of high school, Mafi was a 3-star recruit ranked as the No. 8 player in Utah for the 2024 class. He chose Oklahoma State over offers from Nebraska, USC, and Utah—a sign that Power Five programs saw his potential early.

Physically, Mafi has the build of a mauling right tackle, but he spent nearly the entire season protecting the blind side out of necessity for the Cowboys. According to Pro Football Focus, his best performances came against Texas Tech and Kansas State. In the Texas Tech game, he helped keep star Red Raider defensive end David Bailey sack-free—no small feat, even if the Cowboys were on the wrong end of a blowout.

Let's be honest: Oklahoma State had a rough season. But that context actually makes Mafi's experience more valuable. He was baptized by fire, starting every game for a struggling offense, and emerged with a season of development that Purdue can now build on. Landing a starting-caliber Big 12 tackle with three years left is a home run in the transfer portal, plain and simple.

For a Boilermaker offensive line that needs a spark, Mafi might just be the steady, battle-tested anchor they've been looking for.
