For Jacksonville University junior Stephen Coleman, that dream is now a reality, as he secures an exclusive internship with the newest American-led force on the grid: the Cadillac F1 team.

"This is the dream. It's pretty surreal," Coleman says, describing the opportunity to help build parts for the team's power unit. His journey to the pinnacle of global racing has been fueled by a hands-on education and a relentless drive that started right on campus.

Coleman didn't just study engineering; he built a racetrack to his future. As the founder and leader of JU's first-ever Formula SAE International racing chapter, he gained critical real-world experience in vehicle design, manufacturing, and competition—the perfect foundation for a career at the cutting edge of automotive technology.

That practical experience was supercharged by mentorship from within the sport itself. Through JU's STEAM institute, Coleman connected with local motorsport leaders and a key figure: JU alumnus and professional racecar driver Tiger Tari. "Tiger has become such a big partner," Coleman notes, highlighting the value of insider advice. This mentorship even included a trip to the pit lane at the iconic Rolex 24 at Daytona, offering a priceless behind-the-scenes look at professional racing.

These connections proved pivotal. "It's really tough to get your foot in the door," Coleman explains, acknowledging the highly specialized nature of motorsports. He sees the Formula SAE program as a vital launchpad for other aspiring engineers, providing that crucial first line of "racing" on a resume.

Following a previous internship in NASCAR, Coleman's Cadillac F1 opportunity represents a monumental shift into the global arena. It's a story that blends academic rigor with sporting passion, proving that with the right drive and support, the fast lane to an F1 career starts long before you reach the paddock.
