The Brooklyn Nets have the No. 6 pick in the 2026 NBA Draft and guard Mikel Brown Jr. could be there. Brown discussed his back injury rehab.

The Brooklyn Nets walked into Sunday's 2026 NBA Draft Lottery with hopes of climbing to the top, but the basketball gods had other plans. After sliding from the No. 3 spot to the No. 6 pick, the Nets are now reevaluating their options. One name that's gaining serious traction? Louisville Cardinals guard Mikel Brown Jr.—and he just gave Brooklyn fans a reason to feel optimistic.

Speaking at the NBA Combine in Chicago, Brown opened up about his recent back injury recovery, and his confidence is hard to ignore. "I feel amazing. Those two months off definitely helped me. I prioritized my rehab and really didn't touch a ball like that," Brown said. "I was just focused on getting back to where I was before the season started. I feel better than I have in a long time. I can't wait to get back on the floor."

Brown's back issues limited him to just 21 games this season, but the 6-foot-4 guard proved his resilience. Even while playing through discomfort, he averaged an impressive 18.2 points, 3.3 rebounds, and 4.7 assists per game, shooting 41.0% from the field and 34.4% from beyond the arc. Those numbers suggest a player who can create his own shot and run an offense—exactly the kind of dynamic guard the Nets could use.

Of course, Brooklyn won't have an easy decision. Brown is part of a deep guard class in the 5-10 lottery range, alongside Arkansas's Darius Acuff Jr., Illinois's Keaton Wagler, and Houston's Kingston Flemings. While Wagler might offer more off-ball value with his shooting, Brown's on-ball scoring and playmaking put him in the same conversation as Acuff and Flemings. For a Nets team that needs a primary creator, Brown's blend of vision and aggression could be the missing piece.

The 2026 NBA Draft is still months away—slated for June 23—but Brown's health update is a welcome sign for Brooklyn. If his back is truly behind him, the Nets might just have their backcourt of the future waiting at No. 6.
