Pep Guardiola has heaped praise on Nathan Ake, calling him an "incredible signing" for Manchester City, even as the defender's future at the club hangs in the balance. With Ake now entering the final year of his contract at the Etihad Stadium, transfer rumors have swirled, particularly from Serie A and La Liga, with Barcelona reportedly among the clubs interested in the 29-year-old Dutch international.

Guardiola, speaking ahead of City's Premier League clash with Crystal Palace, didn't hold back in his admiration for Ake, who delivered a standout performance in Saturday's 3-0 win over Brentford. "Nathan is maybe sometimes not really physical, but there are few players more reliable when they play like him," Guardiola said. "In terms of focus, Nathan is one of the best I've ever managed. He's just unbelievable."

The City boss acknowledged that Ake can struggle with the demands of playing every three days, but he highlighted the defender's composure in high-stakes moments. "Look at the Carabao Cup final, the Champions League semi-finals, or the last game against Brentford—he dealt with the pace of Kevin Schade and Igor Thiago brilliantly. It was a masterclass in defending space and countering speed."

Ake, a four-time Premier League champion, joined City from Bournemouth in 2020 and has since become a trusted figure in Guardiola's squad, even starting in the 2023 Champions League final in Istanbul. "He's one of the most incredible teammates I've ever seen," Guardiola added. "An incredible signing for this tenure. Top guy and top player."

Despite the praise, Guardiola remained candid about the uncertainty surrounding Ake's future. "I don't know what will happen, but I want him to stay," he admitted. For now, Ake's focus remains on the pitch, proving his worth as a defensive rock for City, even as whispers of a potential exit grow louder.
