The New England Patriots are wasting no time locking in their future, as the team has officially signed its first draft pick from the 2026 NFL Draft to a rookie contract. According to reports, fifth-round cornerback Karon Prunty has agreed to a four-year deal worth $4.81 million, including a fully guaranteed signing bonus of $434,868.

Prunty, 24, was selected by the Patriots with the 171st overall pick just last Saturday. The cornerback brings a wealth of experience to New England after a decorated six-year college career. He started all 55 games he played across stints at Kansas, North Carolina A&T, and Wake Forest, where he finished his collegiate journey in 2025. Over that span, Prunty racked up 166 tackles, seven interceptions, three sacks, two forced fumbles, and one fumble recovery. He also broke up 30 passes and earned third-team All-ACC honors in his final season.

As the Patriots continue to build their roster for the upcoming season, Prunty is expected to compete for a backup cornerback role and contribute on special teams. With his experience as an outside cornerback, he'll be looking to carve out a spot on a depth chart headlined by Christian Gonzalez and Carlton Davis.

The rookie minicamp is just around the corner, set to kick off on Friday, May 8, at Gillette Stadium.
