The New England Patriots may have found a hidden gem in the sixth round of this year's NFL Draft. With their first pick of that round, they selected Dametrious Crownover, an offensive tackle from Texas A&M—and analysts are already calling it one of the best value picks at his position.
Nick Baumgardner of The Athletic praised the selection, noting Crownover's impressive physical tools. "Another gigantic tackle, Crownover (6-7, 319, with 35 3/8-inch arms) keeps his massive frame under control off the edge and brings real potential as a run blocker," Baumgardner wrote. "He's another player who could perform immediately as a swing tackle before blossoming into something more."
Standing 6-foot-7 and weighing 319 pounds, Crownover brings a rare combination of size and length. At the NFL Combine, his arms measured 35 ⅜ inches with an 86-inch wingspan—elite numbers for an offensive lineman. A two-year starter for the Aggies, he appeared in 47 total games and brings valuable experience to the Patriots' offensive line room.
However, Crownover's path to playing time won't be easy. With Will Campbell and Morgan Moses returning at the tackle positions in 2026, and first-round pick Caleb Lomu already in the mix, Crownover is expected to provide depth initially. He played right tackle during the Patriots' rookie minicamp over the weekend, and the team appears to be grooming him for a swing tackle role—a player who can step in at either left or right tackle when needed.
NFL Media's Lance Zierlein offered a balanced scouting report. "Traits-based tackle with a coveted blend of size, length and athleticism. Crownover's technique and fundamentals need significant polish," Zierlein wrote. "He converted from tight end to tackle in 2022 and is massive but quick. He can find and fit moving targets as a run blocker, but his pad level runs high, creating inconsistent drive power. He's light on his feet out of the gate with pass-set quickness to protect his corner, but erratic footwork causes breakdowns and excessive pressures."
Zierlein added that while Crownover has rare traits and a higher floor if everything clicks with coaching, his ultimate ceiling might be that of an average swing tackle. Still, for a sixth-round pick, that represents solid value—and exactly the kind of developmental prospect that can become a key piece of a winning roster.
For Patriots fans, Crownover is a name to watch in training camp. Whether he becomes a reliable backup or develops into a starter, his size and athleticism make him an intriguing addition to New England's offensive line depth chart.
