The Washington Huskies are making waves in the 2028 recruiting class, and their latest target is a standout linebacker with serious NFL pedigree. Linebackers coach Brian Odom has extended a scholarship offer to four-star prospect Brayden Bonik, a rising star from Fort Bend Ridge Point High School in Missouri City, Texas.
At 6-foot-1 and 195 pounds, Bonik is already turning heads as the No. 187 overall prospect and No. 14 linebacker in the 2028 class, according to the 247Sports Composite. Despite having only two years of high school football under his belt, he's become one of the most sought-after recruits in the nation, boasting an impressive 46 offers from powerhouse programs across the SEC, Big Ten, and other blue-blood schools. Georgia, Miami, Michigan, Notre Dame, Oklahoma, and Tennessee are all in the mix, and he's already taken unofficial visits to Arizona State, Florida, Nebraska, and SMU.
What makes Bonik such a hot commodity? His game film tells the story. He plays with elite speed—reportedly clocking a 4.40 in the 40-yard dash—which translated into 62 tackles, 9.5 tackles for loss, 2.5 sacks, and 5 pass breakups during his sophomore year. He brings a physical edge that college coaches love, primarily lining up at outside linebacker where he's asked to set the edge and rush the passer. With plenty of room to grow into his frame, Bonik has the athleticism and vision to eventually shift between inside and outside linebacker at the next level.
For Washington, this offer is more than just a recruiting move—it's about building connections. Bonik's father, Devin, starred at linebacker at Oklahoma State under legendary coach Jimmy Johnson and spent 11 years as an NFL coach, including a stint with the Jacksonville Jaguars under head coach Jack Del Rio. Interestingly, Del Rio—the longest-tenured coach in Jaguars history—has been a familiar face at Washington's spring and fall practices, as his son, Luke, serves as an offensive quality control coach on Jedd Fisch's staff. That family tie could give the Huskies a unique edge as they look to develop a relationship with the talented recruit.
As Odom continues to shape his 2028 recruiting board, Washington appears to have a solid in with Bonik. With his combination of speed, physicality, and NFL bloodlines, he's the kind of player who could make a major impact in the Huskies' defense for years to come.
