The Orlando Magic have officially parted ways with head coach Jamahl Mosley, the team announced Monday, following a disappointing first-round playoff exit that saw them squander a commanding 3-1 series lead.

Mosley, who spent five seasons at the helm, compiled a 189-221 record during his tenure. The 2025-26 campaign showed promise with a 45-37 mark, but it all unraveled in the postseason. The eighth-seeded Magic were eliminated in a decisive Game 7 loss on the road to the top-seeded Detroit Pistons, a collapse that ultimately sealed Mosley's fate.

"We're grateful to Jamahl for all he's done for the Orlando Magic," said Jeff Weltman, the team's president of basketball operations. "We appreciate his leadership and the positive contributions he made as head coach. While this was a difficult decision, we feel it's time for a new voice and fresh perspective."

The Magic brought Mosley aboard in 2021, replacing Steve Clifford after a rebuild was already underway. Mosley, a former assistant with the Dallas Mavericks, Cleveland Cavaliers, and Denver Nuggets, endured a tough 22-60 debut season. But the franchise's fortunes shifted with the 2022 NBA Draft, when they selected Paolo Banchero with the No. 1 overall pick. The team improved to 34-48 in 2022-23, then jumped to 47-35 the following year, and posted a 41-41 record last season. However, each of their three playoff appearances under Mosley ended in the first round.

This season, the Magic struggled offensively, averaging the fewest points and assists per game of any team that made the postseason—a glaring weakness that proved costly against a hungry Pistons squad.

As the organization turns its attention to finding a new leader, the playoff action continues. The Pistons will host the No. 4 Cleveland Cavaliers in Game 1 of the Eastern Conference semifinals on Tuesday at 7 p.m. EDT in Detroit. The winner of that series will face either the No. 3 New York Knicks or the No. 7 Philadelphia 76ers in the conference finals.
