After his playing days at Oklahoma State and Houston, he jumped into coaching, spending time close to his Texas roots at SMU before a stint with the Los Angeles Rams. He returned to the college ranks under Kenny Dillingham, and then came the call from Lanning to join the Ducks.

While Samples' coaching résumé speaks volumes, it's his personal history that truly sets him apart. He's the son of Reginald Samples, a Dallas-area legend who has coached high school football for over 35 years and won two Texas 6A state titles—most recently at powerhouse Duncanville. That connection proved invaluable when Samples helped the Ducks land five-star wide receiver Dakorien Moore, a Duncanville product, further strengthening Oregon's recruiting pipeline to the Lone Star State.

Now, it's that same Texas-bred tough love—the kind Ra'Shaad learned from his father—that's pushing Oregon's running back room to new heights. Players are asking how he balances caring for them with demanding more, and the answer is simple: honest, hard-nosed coaching that builds champions.
