The Ontario Reign roared back in Game Two of the Pacific Division Semifinals, evening the series with a commanding 5-1 victory over the Coachella Valley Firebirds in the 2026 Calder Cup Playoffs.
From the opening puck drop, the Reign came out firing, launching four straight shots in the first six minutes. But the Firebirds answered with a six-shot surge of their own, capped by forward Lleyton Roed's goal to take a 1-0 lead. Ontario stayed composed, and forward Logan Brown buried the equalizer in the final minutes of the first period, sending the teams into the locker room tied.
The second period saw the Firebirds dominate the shot clock, outshooting the Reign 15-9, but Ontario's defense held firm. With just under five minutes left in the frame, forward Glenn Gawdin struck the game-winner, giving the Reign a 2-1 edge heading into the final period.
Ontario wasted no time in the third, as Cole Guttman sniped a goal just 15 seconds in to double the lead. Coachella Valley earned a power play 20 seconds later, hoping to claw back, but the Reign's Francesco Pinelli turned the tables with a short-handed goal, pushing the lead to 4-1. The Firebirds fought hard, outshooting Ontario 7-3 the rest of the way, but they couldn't find the net. An empty-netter sealed the victory for the Reign.
Goaltender Phoenix Copley was the star of the night, stopping 34 of 35 shots for an incredible .971 save percentage. On the other side, Firebirds goalie Nikke Kokko made 19 saves on 23 shots, finishing with an .826 save percentage.
With the series now tied, both teams will look to seize momentum in Game Three. For the Reign, it's all about building on this explosive performance—and for fans, it's the perfect time to gear up in Ontario's colors as the playoff push heats up.
