The Jets selected WR Omar Cooper, Jr. in the first round of the NFL draft. What is his 2026 fantasy outlook, and how might he impact his WR teammates?

The New York Jets made a bold move in the first round of the NFL Draft by selecting wide receiver Omar Cooper, Jr., and fantasy football managers are already buzzing. What can we realistically expect from the rookie in 2026, and how will his arrival shake up the pecking order alongside Garrett Wilson and Adonai Mitchell?

Let's start with the math: a quarterback throwing for 3,500 yards and 25 touchdowns simply can't sustain multiple fantasy-relevant wideouts the way a 4,500-yard, 35-score passer can. While Geno Smith's best days may be behind him, his sharp decline over the past two seasons is hard to ignore. Whether it's Justin Fields, Tyrod Taylor, or Zach Wilson under center, the Jets have consistently struggled to produce more than one fantasy-friendly receiver—usually a healthy Garrett Wilson.

The lone exception came in 2024, when an aging but capable Aaron Rodgers targeted both Wilson and Davante Adams. That duo combined for 268 targets, giving the Jets arguably their most talented wide receiver pairing in franchise history. But that was then, and this is now.

Fantasy managers drafting Cooper are betting on him becoming a reliable No. 2 or No. 3 option in an offense that also features an ascending tight end in Mason Taylor and a formidable pass-catching backfield led by Breece Hall, with Braelon Allen and Isaiah Davis in reserve. A few seasons ago, Geno Smith might have approached Rodgers' 2024 production. Today, it's a different story. This receiving corps is unequivocally Wilson's show, with Cooper, Mitchell, and everyone else competing for scraps.

In terms of 2026 fantasy ceilings, Cooper and Mitchell are in the same tier. Deep-league players should skip the debate over who has the better ADP—it's a coin flip. Dynasty managers, however, need to keep an eye on the long game. If the Jets ever land a franchise-altering quarterback, this budding wide receiver nucleus could finally live up to its potential.
