Sometimes, the best moves come from the toughest losses. When Notre Dame saw catcher Carson Tinney depart for Texas through the transfer portal, the Irish didn't panic—they went hunting. And they found a gem in the Ivy League.

Mark Quatrani, who arrived from Cornell with a reputation as one of the Ivy League's top backstops, has been nothing short of spectacular this season. Now, he's got the hardware to prove it.

This week, the junior from Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, was named the Buster Posey Collegiate Catcher of the Week by the College Baseball Foundation—an honor that carries weight in the college baseball world, given that the award is named after the legendary San Francisco Giants catcher.

So, what did Quatrani do to earn the nod? In a word: everything.

As the Irish rolled to a perfect 5-0 week, Quatrani posted a jaw-dropping .632 batting average. He went 12-for-19 at the plate, racking up three doubles, a home run, five runs scored, and 11 RBIs. His slash line was a thing of beauty: a .947 slugging percentage, a .625 on-base percentage, and a 1.572 OPS. He also drew three walks and added two sacrifice flies for good measure.

But the numbers get even more impressive when the pressure ramps up. With runners in scoring position, Quatrani hit .600. With two outs? He was a scorching 6-for-7 (.857), driving in five of his 11 RBIs in those clutch situations.

And behind the plate, Quatrani was just as dominant. He posted a perfect 1.000 fielding percentage, tallying 35 putouts and three assists. Perhaps most telling: he threw out three of the four runners who dared to test his arm on the base paths.

For a Notre Dame team that has faced its share of struggles this season, Quatrani's emergence is a bright spot—and a reminder that sometimes, the best additions come from the most unexpected places. This is his first Buster Posey Collegiate Catcher of the Week honor, and if he keeps playing like this, it certainly won't be his last.
