After a brief health scare, NFL icon Lawrence Taylor is back on his feet and heading home. The 67-year-old legend was discharged from Morristown Medical Center in New Jersey on Tuesday, May 5, following a two-week stay for a stomach-related issue that began on April 20.
Taylor's attorney, Mark Eiglarsh, shared the uplifting news, saying the Hall of Famer is "grateful to now be on the road to recovery." And what's the first thing on his mind? Getting back to the golf course. "He hopes to be back on the golf course soon," Eiglarsh added, painting a picture of a man ready to return to his passions.
In a heartfelt statement, Taylor also wanted to thank the countless fans who rallied behind him. "Mr. Taylor would like to sincerely thank everyone for the outpouring of love, support and prayers," Eiglarsh said. "Knowing that so many people were thinking of him and praying for his recovery gave him strength and helped carry him through a very challenging time."
The former New York Giants superstar, who dominated the NFL for 13 seasons after being drafted second overall in 1981, has been showing signs of improvement since his first week under medical observation. With two Super Bowl rings—including a memorable victory over the Denver Broncos in 1987—Taylor has long been a symbol of resilience. Now, he's proving that same grit extends off the field.
As Taylor heads back to his home in Florida to rest and recover, the sports world can breathe a sigh of relief. Here's to a speedy return to the green for one of the game's all-time greats.
