The University of Wisconsin is assembling an all-star lineup—not for the field, but for the search committee tasked with finding its next athletic director. With the goal of having a new leader in place by this summer, the Badgers have tapped a mix of sports industry heavyweights and university insiders to guide the process.
The search, announced on May 12, will be led by CSA Search and Consulting, a firm known for navigating high-stakes athletic department hires. Chairing the nine-person committee is Lauren Bishop, a UW professor and faculty athletics representative. But the roster gets even more impressive: Indianapolis Colts general manager Chris Ballard, Dallas Mavericks co-interim general manager Michael Finley, and New Jersey Devils director of player development Meghan Duggan are among the members. All three are former UW athletes, bringing a deep understanding of what it takes to compete at the highest level—both on and off the court.
"It is vitally important we hear from a variety of voices on the qualities we should be seeking in a new director," Bishop said in a news release. "To achieve that goal, the committee will spend the next several weeks seeking feedback from student-athletes, athletic department coaches and staff, alumni and other stakeholders."
This search comes as the Badgers look to build on a legacy of athletic excellence, and having front-office minds from the NFL, NBA, and NHL involved signals a commitment to finding a leader who can navigate the evolving landscape of college sports. For fans and alumni, it's a promising step toward securing the future of Wisconsin athletics—and maybe even a few new pieces of gear to celebrate the next chapter.
