Montana State has locked in its 2028 football schedule, and added a new game for 2029, both against first-time FCS opponents. Athletic Director Leon Costello made the announcement on Tuesday, giving fans plenty to look forward to on the gridiron.
The Bobcats will host Harvard on September 16, 2028, and Long Island University on September 8, 2029. Harvard, a powerhouse from the Ivy League, made an impressive FCS Playoffs appearance as an at-large team in 2025. LIU competes in the Northeast Conference (NEC) and will be a fresh face in Bozeman.
These matchups mark first-ever meetings for Montana State against both schools. The only hiccup? A 2020 game against LIU was canceled due to the pandemic. But the Bobcats do have some history with Ivy League opponents—they topped Yale 21-13 in last December's FCS Playoffs, a thrilling home win in Bozeman.
Montana State's track record against the NEC is solid, too. They've beaten league member Mercyhurst in each of the last two seasons, crushed Wagner 47-24 in 2018, and have a date with Central Connecticut State coming up in 2026. This new schedule adds even more variety to the mix.
In related news, Big Sky rival UC Davis also announced a home-and-home series with Harvard. The Aggies will travel to Cambridge on September 18, 2027, with the Crimson visiting Davis on September 20, 2031. It's shaping up to be an exciting era for FCS football.
