The University of Michigan's investigation into former football coach Sherrone Moore has officially concluded—and the price tag is nothing short of staggering. The Chicago-based law firm Jenner & Block, hired to dig into Moore's conduct and the broader culture within the athletic department, has racked up a bill exceeding $11.5 million, according to records obtained by The Detroit News.
What started as a focused probe into an alleged inappropriate relationship between Moore and former staffer Paige Shiver quickly ballooned into a sweeping review of how such behavior could go unchecked. The firm's scope expanded to include multiple scandals from the Jim Harbaugh and Juwan Howard eras, painting a picture of a department struggling with oversight and cultural management.
For Michigan fans, the fallout has been significant. The football program has since turned to former Utah coach Kyle Whittingham to lead the team, while the basketball program celebrated a national championship under second-year coach Dusty May—a bright spot amid the turmoil.
As for Moore, he avoided jail time but was sentenced to 18 months of probation following an incident in December 2025, pleading guilty to two misdemeanors. The investigation may be over, but the financial and reputational costs linger for a program trying to turn the page.
