The New York Mets are finally finding their rhythm, and it's a sight for sore eyes. After a brutal April that left them with the worst record in baseball, the team has flipped the script in May, securing their third straight win and second consecutive series victory on Wednesday night against the Colorado Rockies.
Manager Carlos Mendoza is seeing a different energy in the dugout. "It's good to see the guys out there playing loose, playing with confidence, and just playing their games," he said. "They aren't trying to do too much right now. There's a lot of smiles on their faces—it's just good to see them having fun."
The offense came alive in a big way, racking up 10 runs on 15 hits. Juan Soto set the tone immediately, launching a leadoff homer on just the third pitch of the game. From there, the bottom of the order piled on, with Marcus Semien leading the charge with four hits. "Juan starting it off was good for everybody to feel like it was going to be a good day," Semien noted. "And it definitely was."
On the mound, Freddy Peralta gutted through five scoreless innings, giving the team exactly what they needed. "This is what I expected, this is who we are," Peralta said. "We have to keep it that way."
While there's still plenty of work to do to climb out of that early-season hole, the Mets are playing with a newfound swagger. They'll look to keep the momentum rolling on Thursday afternoon, when Christian Scott takes the mound with a chance to secure the team's second series sweep of the season. "It's important," Mendoza emphasized. "We have an opportunity to come back tomorrow and get that third one. We can't sit here and think about the past—it's just taking it one day at a time."
