MetLife Stadium, home of the New York Giants and Jets, has undergone a temporary name change for the World Cup.

If you've driven past the home of the New York Giants and Jets recently, you might have done a double-take. The iconic MetLife Stadium signage has vanished, but fans can rest easy—it's only a temporary change for a global soccer spectacle.

In preparation for hosting eight matches in the 2026 FIFA World Cup, including the final, the venue has been rebranded as "New Jersey New York Stadium." This is a standard FIFA procedure to ensure no corporate branding conflicts with the tournament's own sponsors, a common practice at World Cups worldwide to protect commercial exclusivity.

The famous MetLife name and logos will return after the final whistle blows on July 19th. However, the World Cup's footprint is significant. The stadium underwent major modifications, including swapping the artificial turf for a natural grass pitch and removing approximately 1,750 seats to meet FIFA's strict field dimensions, all of which will be reversed for the NFL season.

The tournament's schedule also slightly impacts the Giants' summer routine. With the stadium occupied for post-event breakdown, the team will kick off its training camp at the historic Greenbrier resort in West Virginia before returning home. The changes ensure the World Cup excitement won't interfere with any preseason or regular-season football action at the newly restored MetLife this fall.
