Sean Jones grew up in Ohio, and he's transferring to Toledo after four injury-plagued years at Marquette.

Marquette guard Sean Jones is heading home to Ohio, announcing his transfer to the University of Toledo for his final season of eligibility. The move marks a homecoming for the 5-foot-10 guard, who was a standout three-time all-state player at Gahanna Lincoln High School near Columbus.

Jones's four-year tenure at Marquette was unfortunately defined by persistent injuries. Most significantly, a severe knee injury forced him to redshirt the entire 2024-25 season for rehabilitation, keeping him off the court for 21 months. Last season, shoulder and toe issues further limited him to just eight appearances. Given his injury history, there is a possibility he could apply for a medical hardship waiver to gain an additional year of eligibility.

For Toledo, landing Jones is a notable addition. Head coach Tod Kowalczyk, who has deep Wisconsin roots from his time as a Marquette assistant and UW-Green Bay head coach, has a strong track record of developing guard talent, most notably helping shape current Milwaukee Buck Ryan Rollins. Jones, originally part of Shaka Smart's first full recruiting class at Marquette, will look to stay healthy and make a major impact in the MAC conference, providing veteran backcourt leadership for the Rockets.
