Manchester United have received a significant boost in their pursuit of defensive reinforcements, with AFC Bournemouth confirming that Marcos Senesi will leave the club on a free transfer this summer.

While the Red Devils are prioritizing a major midfield overhaul with their transfer budget, strengthening the backline remains a key objective. The 28-year-old Argentine centre-back is set to depart the Cherries after four years on the south coast, having joined from Feyenoord in 2020.

Standing at six feet tall and naturally left-footed, Senesi has built a reputation as one of the Premier League's most consistent and reliable defenders. He brings more than just physical presence to Andoni Iraola's defence—the Argentine is composed in possession and excels at playing out from the back, making him a perfect fit for modern tactical systems.

According to reports from April, Senesi's representatives have been in "close contact" with Manchester United, Chelsea, and Tottenham Hotspur. Tottenham are currently considered the frontrunners, depending on their final league position.

United are also keeping tabs on Spurs' Micky van de Ven, the Dutch defender nicknamed the "speed machine." The 23-year-old has been identified as an "ideal candidate" to bolster the United backline and is expected to leave north London regardless of Tottenham's season outcome. However, any move for Van de Ven would require a hefty £60 million fee, making the free-agent Senesi a far more economical option.

This development gives United a valuable opportunity to address their defensive needs without exhausting their budget, allowing them to focus resources on the midfield rebuild that remains their top priority.
