Manchester United head coach Michael Carrick faces a selection dilemma ahead of the trip to Sunderland, with Benjamin Sesko back from injury but likely to start on the bench. The Red Devils have already secured Champions League football for next season following a thrilling 3-2 victory over Liverpool at Old Trafford last Sunday, but Carrick insists his side is determined to finish the campaign strongly.

The visit to the Stadium of Light marks the first of United's final three league fixtures, and while the pressure is off in terms of European qualification, there's plenty of intrigue around team selection. Sesko, described by pundit Micah Richards as a "monster" striker, scored the crucial second goal against Liverpool before colliding with advertising boards and picking up a knock. However, club insider Sully has confirmed on RoundTable that the 23-year-old Slovenian is in the travelling squad.

Given United have already achieved their primary objective of the season, Carrick may opt to manage Sesko's minutes carefully. This opens the door for fringe players to stake their claim. Joshua Zirkzee and Mason Mount are the prime candidates to break into the starting lineup, with both vying for a spot in the attacking unit. Mount appears to have the edge in Carrick's pecking order and could start on the left wing, allowing Matheus Cunha to lead the line through the middle.

Cunha himself will be eager to make a statement after recent speculation that the Brazilian national team had agreed with United to rest him ahead of the World Cup. The former Wolves star quickly dismissed those rumours on social media, and a strong performance against Sunderland would be the perfect response.

With Amad Diallo also pushing for minutes, Carrick has plenty of attacking options to rotate as United look to maintain momentum heading into the season's final stretch. The Sunderland clash promises to offer a glimpse of the depth Carrick can call upon as the Red Devils aim to finish the campaign in style.
