LSU baseball is fighting the injury bug. Jake Brown’s season ended last week after the star outfielder underwent surgery on a broken hamate bone. Cooper Moore, who’s been out since late March, won’t return either. Seth Dardar hasn’t played since LSU’s loss to Ole Miss on April 11.
However, head coach Jay Johnson offered a somewhat positive update on a couple of key hitters. Chris Stanfield and John Pearson missed a couple of games vs. Mississippi State and Johnson said the pair is doubtful for Tuesday night’s game vs Southeastern Louisiana, but Johnson hasn’t ruled out a return this weekend.
Pearson and Stanfield are both dealing with hamstring injuries. Stanfield has struggled at the plate in 2026, only batting .229 with an OPS below .700. Pearson it hitting .247, but owns an .830 OPS.
Says Pearson and Stanfield have hamstrings and are doubtful for SLU on Tuesday, but again Jay Johnson is optimistic about them returning soon.
LSU's injury situation grew worse last week when Friday starter Casan Evans was scratched from his start. Johnson shed more light on Evans' situation at his radio show, saying Evans didn't feel good warming up.
Jay Johnson on his radio show says that Casan Evans didn't feel good warming up and didn't even throw at State, says that it was checked out immediately and again today. "We've got a good plan on getting him back on track... I would not rule out him pitching this weekend...…
Johnson said there's a chance Evans can pitch this weekend.
Next up for LSU is a midweek game vs Southeastern Louisiana on Tuesday night, before a home SEC series vs South Carolina this weekend.
