Liverpool will allow one of their biggest transfer targets to agree a deal with Bayern Munich. They're not going to compete.

Liverpool came very close to signing Anthony Gordon back in 2024. Newcastle United needed money to meet Premier League PSR and were willing to sell one of their stars.

However, moves for Elliot Anderson and Yankuba Minteh materialised, calling off Liverpool's deal for Gordon. But that didn't stop either the Reds' interest of the player's interest in moving to his boyhood club.

Newcastle are now again in a position where they're looking to sell a star. Their season has been a disaster, really, going all the way back to the start of last summer and the Alexander Isak situation.

So Gordon is arguably the most-likely exit. The Athletic reports on Newcastle chasing £75m for him but, notably, Liverpool don't intend on entering the race.

Instead, that race is led by Bayern Munich. They do hope to negotiate the asking price down, though it's thought Gordon is their main target right now.

Liverpool won't put up a fight, allowing Gordon to head elsewhere as they focus on other targets.

As of 28 April 2026, Anthony Gordon remains a pivotal yet frustrated figure at Newcastle United. The 25-year-old winger has missed the Magpies' last two fixtures, including the recent 2–1 defeat to Arsenal, due to a hip injury. Reports from 27 April indicate Gordon is aiming to return to training this week with the hope of featuring against Brighton on 2 May. Before this setback, he was in strong form, having scored in crucial matches against Manchester United and Sunderland earlier this spring.

Gordon’s future at St James' Park is the subject of intense speculation. Newcastle are reportedly considering selling a star player to fund a squad overhaul after a disappointing campaign. while the club values Gordon at approximately £75–80 million, interest is high from elite suitors. Bayern Munich have earmarked him as a key target, though they face stiff competition from Liverpool, Arsenal, and Chelsea.

A mainstay under Thomas Tuchel, Gordon is expected to be a starter for England at the 2026 World Cup this June. His versatility and prolific domestic output have cemented his place in the Three Lions' squad regardless of the ongoing transfer noise.
