When you lose Game 1 of the NBA Playoffs second round by 18 points, the writing is on the wall. The Los Angeles Lakers fell 108-90 to the Oklahoma City Thunder, and while LeBron James fought valiantly, it wasn't nearly enough. The four-time NBA champion knows exactly where his team's biggest weakness lies—and it's not in the starting lineup.

LeBron put up an impressive 27 points on 70.5% shooting, and Coach JJ Redick managed to get solid contributions from Deandre Ayton, Rui Hachimura, and Marcus Smart, all scoring in double digits. But against the league's top-ranked defense, that wasn't going to cut it. The Lakers' backcourt struggled mightily, with Austin Reaves attempting to channel Luka Doncic's playmaking but falling flat—managing just eight points and six assists on a dismal 18.75% shooting while committing four turnovers.

Speaking to Sam Amick of The Athletic, LeBron didn't mince words about what the Lakers are missing. "Where are the offensive issues coming from? The guy (Luka Doncic) who averaged 37 a game. There's the issues right there," James said. "You're playing against the number one defensive team in the NBA, as far as the ratings and everything. And when you play against great defenses, you have to have guys that can attract multiple defenders on the floor at all times."

The message is clear: The Lakers' only real shot at beating the defending champions hinges on getting Doncic back in the series. Without his 30-point scoring threat and ability to draw double teams, the Lakers' offense sputters against elite defensive units like Oklahoma City's. As Game 2 approaches, all eyes will be on whether Coach Redick and LeBron can find a stopgap solution—or if the team will have to wait for their superstar to return before making a real run.
