Idaho's all-time high school scoring king is coming home. Kase Wynott, the former Lapwai High School phenom who rewrote the state's record books, announced via Instagram on Friday that he is transferring from Washington State to the University of Idaho Vandals.
This move marks a significant homecoming for the 6-foot-6 guard, whose prep career was the stuff of Idaho legend. Wynott amassed a staggering 2,962 points, won three state championships, and earned Gatorade Player of the Year honors, making him one of the most decorated players in state history.
After two seasons with the Washington State Cougars, Wynott entered the transfer portal this spring. He cited his strong existing relationship with Idaho head coach Alex Pribble and the program's momentum as key factors in his decision. "They just came off a really good year, so it kind of felt like it was a no-brainer," Wynott said.
For Coach Pribble and the Vandals, landing Wynott is a major offseason victory. Idaho is fresh off its first NCAA Tournament appearance since 1990 but is facing the departure of key players like Big Sky Freshman of the Year Jackson Rasmussen. Wynott represents a crucial infusion of talent and local star power.
"Kase is coming home!" Pribble exclaimed in a statement. "We want the best players from Idaho to be in this program, and Kase is the all-time leading scorer from the state... He'll make an immediate impact next year."
Wynott's commitment, signaled by his social media post captioned "Let's do it @vandalhoops #committed," is a home run for Vandals fans. It brings a proven scorer and a fierce competitor back to his roots, setting the stage for an exciting new chapter in Moscow as Idaho looks to build on its recent tournament success.
