The Los Angeles Lakers have a clear message following their first-round playoff exit: it's all about building around Luka Dončić.

After being swept by the defending champion Oklahoma City Thunder, general manager Rob Pelinka and head coach JJ Redick sat down for their end-of-season interview on Tuesday. The tone was direct and forward-looking. Pelinka described the upcoming offseason as a "deconstruction" process—one that will examine everything from roster fit to infrastructure improvements after a season marred by injuries, constant lineup shuffling, and evolving roles.

"There's a lot to be proud of," Pelinka said. "But certainly nothing that we're satisfied about. This is a market with championship expectations."

Even after back-to-back 50-win seasons, the Lakers know they need more. More depth. More athleticism. More youth. The blueprint is clear.

"I think if you look around the playoffs right now, depth is really important," Pelinka added. "Athleticism and youth... we have a lot of components of that on our roster, but we need to add to it."

Redick agreed, pointing to the deep rotations of playoff contenders as the new standard in the NBA.

"You look at OKC's roster, you look at San Antonio's roster, those guys have 13 high-level rotation players minimum," Redick said. "That's a luxury to have in the NBA."

But it wasn't all criticism. Both Pelinka and Redick highlighted the Lakers' impressive 16-2 stretch late in the regular season as proof that the core trio can click at an elite level. Redick specifically praised LeBron James for his adaptability.

"All three of those guys showed a lot of growth this year," Redick said. "LeBron volunteering to accept a different role in year 23... that is incredible growth."

Redick also addressed the outside noise surrounding Dončić's conditioning and leadership, defending the superstar guard's commitment throughout the season.

"A lot has been made about Luka's fitness level," Redick said. "He was great throughout the season."

According to Redick, Dončić made significant strides as a vocal leader and relationship-builder in the locker room during his first full season in Los Angeles, calling him a "phenomenal" teammate and leader.

Pelinka left no doubt about the franchise's direction.

"The archetype of the roster that we want is going to be retrofitted around Luka and the things he needs."

For Lakers fans, the message is simple: the Dončić era is here, and the front office is ready to build a championship roster around him—starting this summer.
