Barcelona are making moves to strengthen their left-wing options this summer, and while Manchester United's Marcus Rashford remains their top target, the Catalan giants have a Plan B ready to go. If the Rashford deal falls through—largely due to Barcelona's reluctance to meet United's €30m buy option—Newcastle United's Anthony Gordon has emerged as a prime alternative.
But here's where it gets interesting: according to transfer expert Matteo Moretto, Real Betis winger Ez Abde is actually the name sitting highest on Barcelona's shortlist. The Morocco international is enjoying a breakout season in Seville, racking up an impressive 13 goals and 13 assists in 39 appearances. What makes Abde particularly attractive to Barcelona is the 20% sell-on fee they included when selling him to Betis—a smart piece of business that could significantly reduce his asking price.
Speaking of price tags, the difference between these targets is staggering. Abde could reportedly be available for as little as €25m this summer, while Gordon would likely command upwards of €80m. That makes Abde a far more realistic alternative to Rashford from a financial perspective. However, if Barcelona do decide to cash in on Raphinha—and there's been talk they might entertain offers—Gordon suddenly becomes a much more logical replacement for the Brazilian.
Barcelona aren't stopping there. They've also got RCD Mallorca's Jan Virgili on their radar as an economical option, while Benfica's Andreas Schjelderup has been mentioned in previous windows. Interest in the Norwegian has cooled recently, and any move for Virgili appears contingent on Barcelona's overall budget and whether they can strike deals for their primary targets.
For now, all eyes remain on Rashford, but with Abde's consistent form and reasonable price point, Barcelona might just have found their perfect backup plan—one that could save them millions while still adding serious firepower to their attack.
