Bayern Munich fans, breathe easy—your team's injury list is looking a lot less scary ahead of two massive fixtures this week. Head coach Vincent Kompany has shared an encouraging update on three key players as the Bavarians prepare for a Bundesliga clash with Heidenheim and a Champions League semi-final second leg against Paris Saint-Germain.
First, the good news for Saturday's match: young midfielder Tom Bischof could be back in action against Heidenheim after recovering from his injury. "I hope that Tom Bischof will be back already tomorrow," Kompany said in Friday's press conference, giving fans a reason to smile ahead of the weekend.
However, Lennart Karl won't be making the squad for Heidenheim. The midfielder has missed Bayern's last four games across all competitions with a torn muscle fiber, but there's hope he'll return for the crucial PSG showdown on Wednesday. "Maybe against Paris, but we're being cautious with his situation," Kompany explained.
Kompany offered some insight into Karl's recovery, noting that the player's lack of previous injuries could work in his favor. "Most of the time, when you first get injured, you don't even know exactly what it is. Lennart has never been injured before. Usually that means he'll make a quick and full recovery," the coach said. "An experienced player knows his limits. Lennart will do everything he can to be ready for the match against PSG, but we have to respect how the body works."
There's also positive news on Alphonso Davies. The Canadian speedster was substituted at half-time against PSG due to a minor issue, but he's already back on track. After training individually on Thursday, Davies is expected to rejoin the full squad on Friday. "Phonzie is training normally with the team again today, if he feels good," Kompany confirmed. "He felt something in the match against PSG, which is why we made that decision at half-time. I wasn't there unfortunately but the decision was completely correct. We'll see what happens at the weekend."
With Bischof potentially back for Heidenheim and both Karl and Davies eyeing the PSG rematch, Bayern's depth is looking stronger by the day—just in time for the season's most critical stretch.
