The bullpen stepped up big on Sunday.

The Minnesota Twins entered Sunday's series finale against the Toronto Blue Jays desperate for a win, having dropped 12 of their last 15 games and sitting at a disappointing 14-20. But what started as a potentially disastrous afternoon quickly turned into a much-needed turning point.

Joe Ryan, the Twins' starter, exited after recording just one out in the first inning with right elbow soreness. It felt like the day was about to spiral further out of control. Instead, the bullpen stepped up in a big way, carrying the team to a gritty 4-3 victory over the defending American League champion Blue Jays.

Reliever Kody Funderburk, who entered in the eighth inning and induced a crucial ground-out with two runners on base, captured the moment perfectly. "Literally every single hand on deck goes in there, executes and keeps a really good team at bay. I think it was a really huge game for us," Funderburk said. "Just a positive with how things have been going lately."

The win was even more impressive given the circumstances. Andrew Morris came in cold and delivered 3.2 scoreless innings, allowing just two hits while striking out three. Taylor Rogers, Funderburk, and Justin Topa followed, with Topa sealing the game in the ninth by inducing a double play after Toronto had closed the gap to a single run.

This performance was a complete reversal from the previous two games in the series, where Toronto won 7-3 and 11-4. Saturday's loss was particularly painful, as the Twins' bullpen imploded with an eight-run eighth inning.

Funderburk has been a rare bright spot in a bullpen that ranks near the bottom of baseball through April and into May. The 29-year-old lefty has been one of the few arms manager Derek Shelton can trust, posting a 2.31 ERA across 14 appearances and 11.2 innings, with a 1-1 record, three holds, and a save.

For a team that has struggled to find consistency, Sunday's win showed what the Twins' bullpen is capable of when everyone steps up. And for Funderburk, it was a reminder that even in the toughest stretches, a single game can change the momentum.
