In a thrilling Sunday showdown, the expansion Boston Legacy finally broke through for their first regular-season victory, edging the Denver Summit 3-2 with a dramatic stoppage-time winner from Bianca St-Georges. The match, which marked the first-ever meeting between the NWSL's newest expansion clubs, had fans on the edge of their seats from start to finish.
The action kicked off early when Natasha Flint set up Yazmeen Ryan, who unleashed a rocket from outside the box past goalkeeper Casey Murphy to give the Summit a 1-0 lead in the 18th minute. But Boston answered back just before halftime, as Nichelle Prince found the equalizer in the 44th minute, sending the teams into the break level at 1-1.
The second half brought more drama. Denver reclaimed the lead in the 77th minute thanks to a precise left-footed strike from Flint, putting the Summit back in control. However, the Legacy refused to back down. Substitute Aïssata Traoré rose to the occasion, nodding home a header in the 90th minute to make it 2-2 and set the stage for a stunning finish.
With the clock ticking into stoppage time, Traoré's touch landed perfectly for St-Georges, who buried the game-winner to complete the comeback and secure Boston's first win of the season (1-5-1). For the Summit (1-3-3), it was a second straight loss and a fourth consecutive match without a victory.
Elsewhere in the NWSL, the Chicago Stars fell 2-0 to the visiting Portland Thorns, who continue to dominate atop the league standings. The match featured a milestone moment for Olivia Moultrie, who became the youngest player in NWSL history to reach 100 appearances. She celebrated in style, opening the scoring in the 17th minute with an assist from Pietra Tordin.
Chicago controlled much of the second half, boasting more possession, shots, and shots on goal, but couldn't find the back of the net. Portland made them pay in the 89th minute when Moultrie delivered a pinpoint long-range pass to substitute Reilyn Turner, who beat goalkeeper Alyssa Naeher to the ball and slotted home into an empty net. Mackenzie Arnold made four saves to earn her third clean sheet of the season, helping Portland improve to 6-1-1 and extend their lead at the top of the table.
