The Kentucky Wildcats are still working to add talent from the transfer portal, but they badly need to get some shooters.

The Kentucky Wildcats made a splash this week, securing a commitment from talented point guard Zoom Diallo, their first major addition from the transfer portal. While Coach Mark Pope and his staff continue to host a stream of visitors, one critical need remains glaringly unaddressed: proven, consistent perimeter shooting.

Last season's offensive struggles often stemmed from a lack of reliable three-point threats. With only three players shooting above 35% from deep, defenses could sag off the perimeter, clogging driving lanes and creating frustrating scoring droughts. As the roster currently stands, that issue persists. Of last year's top shooters, only Kam Williams returns, making the hunt for snipers in the portal an absolute priority for this offseason.

So, who among Kentucky's targets can help space the floor? Recent visitor Jalen Cox brings a 36% clip from last season. Cruz Davis, another scheduled visitor, is a pure sharpshooter who knocked down 40% of his attempts. While other targets like Alex Wilkins, Sebastian Rancik, and Donnie Freeman offer varied skills, their three-point percentages haven't consistently broken the high-thirties threshold that forces defensive respect.

The bottom line is clear: to build a balanced and potent offense, Kentucky must land at least one—if not two—elite shooters from the portal. Whether it's a visitor already on the radar or a new name emerging, addressing this gap is essential. Without adding that crucial floor-spacing element, the Wildcats risk facing the same offensive constraints that hampered them a year ago.
