When it rains, it pours, and Kentucky Wildcats coach Mark Pope badly needs an umbrella. Since landing Zoom Diallo and Alex Wilkins, things have gone downhill, with Kentucky missing on every transfer portal player they have targeted. That list now includes De'Shayne Montgomery, who not only spurned Pope and the Cats, but is headed to their biggest rival.
Per Travis Branham of 247Sports, Montgomery as committed to Louisville, making it another tough recruiting loss for Kentucky. He had previously visited the Cardinals, and planned to visit Lexington. However, that visit never materialized, and he heads across the state instead.
Montgomery is a 6'4" guard from Florida. He started his career at Mount St. Mary's, then played for the Georgia Bulldogs for a year. Last season, he averaged 13 points per game for Dayton. Louisville will be his fourth team in four years.
For Kentucky, the pickings continue to get slimmer, and fans are getting more and more restless. Tyran Stokes is still uncommitted, and would certainly change the perspective, but a miss on him could signal one of the worst offseasons in Wildcats history. We'll continue to update their recruiting news.
