When you think of Kentucky Basketball, you think of tradition, passion, and high expectations. After a season that fell short of those lofty standards, Head Coach Mark Pope has gone back to the drawing board—and the transfer portal—to rebuild his roster for a critical third season in Lexington.
The Wildcats entered the 2025-26 campaign with Final Four aspirations but stumbled to a 22-14 record and a 10-8 mark in SEC play. Their season ended with a tough loss to Florida in the SEC Tournament quarterfinals (their third defeat to the Gators that year) and a blowout exit against Iowa State in the NCAA Tournament's Round of 32. It was a bitter pill for a program that expects to dance deep into March.
That disappointment triggered a massive roster shakeup. Kentucky lost 11 of its 16 players from last season: three graduated, seven entered the transfer portal, and one is testing the NBA Draft waters (with center Malachi Moreno still undecided ahead of the May withdrawal deadline). Faced with rebuilding nearly from scratch, Pope and his staff hit the portal hard—and their efforts have now been recognized in 247 Sports' final 2026 transfer portal rankings.
Leading the charge is former Washington point guard Zoom Diallo, who checks in at No. 27 overall. The 6-foot-4 four-star guard brings explosive athleticism and playmaking ability to the backcourt, giving Kentucky a dynamic floor general who can create his own shot and set up teammates.
Right behind him is former Furman guard Alex Wilkins, ranked No. 42 overall as another four-star addition. Wilkins is a proven scorer and perimeter shooter who should thrive in Kentucky's system, adding depth and experience to the guard rotation.
In the frontcourt, former Washington center Franck Kepnang arrives at No. 150 overall (also a four-star). At 6-foot-11 and 250 pounds, Kepnang provides the size, rim protection, and interior presence the Wildcats desperately need.
Rounding out the class are former James Madison forward Justin McBride and former Washington State guard Jerone Morton, both of whom add valuable depth and versatility to Pope's revamped squad.
