The Iowa wrestling program is seeing another athlete head for the transfer portal. Rising redshirt junior Kale Petersen has officially entered his name, making him the second Hawkeye to do so this offseason.

An Iowa spokesperson confirmed Petersen's entry on May 1, just one day after the April 30 deadline for portal entries. A Greene County native and three-time high school state champion, Petersen posted an impressive 135-6 record before arriving in Iowa City. During his three years with the Hawkeyes, he compiled a 26-9 overall record, going 5-5 in dual meets and 3-3 in Big Ten competition.

Petersen has shown versatility throughout his college career, competing at 125, 133, and 141 pounds. After redshirting as a true freshman, he'll have two years of eligibility remaining—a valuable asset for any program looking to add experienced depth to its lightweights.

While Petersen hasn't cracked the postseason starting lineup for the Hawkeyes, he's been a regular in dual meet action over the past three seasons. His high school pedigree and college performances suggest he has the potential to become an NCAA qualifier at his next destination.

Petersen follows Jordan Williams, who announced his transfer portal entry on March 31. For Iowa wrestling fans, this marks another roster shift as the program continues to navigate the evolving landscape of college athletics.
