Justin Turner, the beloved former Los Angeles Dodgers infielder, is proving that age is just a number. At 41 years old, the two-time All-Star and 2020 World Series champion isn't ready to hang up his cleats just yet. Instead of retiring or stepping into a coaching role—which many expected—Turner has signed with the Tijuana Toros of the Mexican League for the 2026 season.

Turner's decision comes after a surprising offseason: no MLB teams extended him a non-roster invitation to spring training. "I was kind of shocked," Turner told The Athletic. "To not get a non-roster invite, that was tough and disappointing." He acknowledged the game's growing reliance on analytics, saying, "Part of my tool set that I bring, you won't find on a data sheet. I knew those opportunities were going to dry up, but I didn't think it would be this soon."

For a player who spent nine seasons in Dodger blue, becoming a fan favorite and a clubhouse cornerstone, this snub stings. Turner hit .278 with 147 home runs during his Dodgers tenure, earning a reputation as a clutch postseason performer. His leadership and intangibles—qualities that don't show up on a spreadsheet—are what he believes still have value.

Instead of sulking, Turner is making an impact at Toros Mobil Park. He's not ruling out a return to MLB, but for now, he's focused on playing. "I've always said I'm going to play as long as I can and make someone rip a jersey off me," he said. "I love playing, I love being around guys, love being around the cage. I still feel really good in the box."

Turner's future in baseball seems inevitable—his wife, Kourtney, is convinced he'll become a coach or manager someday. But that chapter isn't written yet. "Baseball is not going anywhere," Turner explained. "Whatever it is that I'll do when I'm done playing isn't going anywhere."

For now, family comes first. Turner and Kourtney have two young sons, and any post-playing role will depend on finding the right balance. "I definitely think I'll remain in the game for a long time," he said. "The question is, is the time right? And how much time is that going to pull me away from my sons? It depends on the role and the situation."

Whether he's in the batter's box or the dugout, Justin Turner's love for the game remains unwavering. And for fans who remember his iconic red beard and clutch hits, it's heartening to see him still chasing the game he loves—even if it's south of the border.
