College football fans are already fired up about the expanded 12-team College Football Playoff, but now whispers of a 24-team format are causing an even bigger uproar. Popular podcaster Josh Pate didn't hold back, calling it "one of the most unpopular proposals…in the history of college football."

As momentum builds among conference leaders and CFP executives for a bracket that would be twice the size of the current format, Pate took aim at decision-makers on his latest episode. He argued that the only people pushing for this massive expansion are those who stand to profit—not the players, not the fans, and certainly not the spirit of the game.

"The growth in support for the 24-team Playoff is not amongst you, it's not me," Pate said. "No one's asked the players, they piss on the players, who cares about the players? It's not players or fans, these people have long since stopped caring about what players or fans want. This is one of the most unpopular proposals of any magnitude in the history of college football among the consumer base. It's growing in support from the very, very small group of people whose pockets may be a little fattened by this."

Pate argued that college football, like many consumer-facing businesses, is at its best when it prioritizes quality over revenue. He warned that turning the postseason into an NFL or NBA-style marathon would ruin the sport for everyone except those already at the top. According to Pate, fans are split roughly 90 percent against the proposal, and he even called out Fox analyst Robert Griffin III for defending the plan.

"It kneecaps the regular season, it's a bailout mechanism for inept leadership, it is wildly unpopular," Pate emphasized.

The podcaster joins a growing chorus of voices—including Paul Finebaum and Kevin Clark—who accuse college football's power brokers of sacrificing the sport's soul for the sake of inclusion. The message is clear: expanding the playoff to 24 teams might make financial sense for a few, but it threatens to dilute the very thing that makes college football special.
