Jorge Martin is taking a race-by-race approach to the 2026 MotoGP season, focusing squarely on the battle within his own garage rather than the championship picture. The Aprilia rider has made it clear that his immediate goal is to beat teammate Marco Bezzecchi every Sunday, not to ponder the title fight months down the line.
This mindset comes after a brutally difficult 2025 campaign. Martin's first year with Aprilia was derailed by a horrific series of injuries, including multiple broken bones and a life-threatening hemopneumothorax in Qatar. He missed the majority of the season and even underwent further surgeries over the winter, which left him underprepared for 2026.
Yet, against the odds, Martin has stormed back into contention. Just three rounds into the new season, he sits a mere four points behind Bezzecchi in the standings. He's already secured podium finishes in Brazil and the United States and clinched his first victory on the Aprilia RS-GP with a Sprint win at COTA.
Despite this strong start, Martin is keeping his ambitions measured. "I won’t think about the world championship until the end of the year," he stated. His philosophy is simple: fight for victory every single weekend. The bigger picture of a championship challenge, he admits, is a "much bigger deal" and will be extremely difficult, but maintaining his current level is the crucial first step.
For now, the duel between Martin and Bezzecchi is shaping up to be one of the most compelling intra-team rivalries on the grid, with each race serving as its own high-stakes showdown.
