When New York Jets offensive coordinator Frank Reich sat down for a pre-draft videoconference with Oregon tight end Kenyon Sadiq, he apparently saw something special. So special, in fact, that he called his shot.

Fast forward to draft night, and that prediction came true in dramatic fashion. As the Jets made Sadiq one of their three first-round selections in the 2026 NFL Draft, cameras caught Reich celebrating with an unmistakable message: "Oh my god. Let's go. What did I tell you? I told you."

The backstory, as ESPN's Jeremy Fowler later revealed, is that Reich had been so impressed during that pre-draft meeting that he essentially told Sadiq the Jets would be coming for him. One team source confirmed that Reich "might have called his shot," making his excitement on draft night completely understandable.

Sadiq isn't just any tight end prospect. He posted a sub-4.40-second 40-yard dash at the NFL Combine, showcasing the kind of elite athleticism that has drawn comparisons to former star Vernon Davis. In a draft class loaded with talent at the position, he emerged as the clear top tight end.

The Jets had a busy first round, also adding wide receiver Omar Cooper Jr. and edge rusher David Bailey. But the Sadiq pick stands out—not just for Reich's prediction, but for what it says about the team's confidence in him. After spending a premium second-round pick on a tight end just last year, the Jets doubled down on the position by using a first-rounder on Sadiq.

He'll join Mason Taylor in a tight end room that Reich is clearly excited to work with. And if Reich's pre-draft instincts are any indication, Sadiq could be making highlight-reel plays for years to come.
