Is the NY Giants’ offense or defense stronger after the Draft and free agency?

Following a busy offseason of free agency and the 2026 NFL Draft, the New York Giants have fans buzzing about one big question: Which side of the ball is stronger—offense or defense?

The Giants split their premium draft capital this year, adding two defenders (linebacker Arvell Reese and cornerback Colton Hood) and two offensive players (guard Francis Mauigoa and wide receiver Malachi Fields) with their first four selections. But when you look at the bigger picture, the offense seems to have the edge—at least on paper.

Last season, the Giants' offense outperformed their defense, despite having fewer investments. Now, the unit boasts four first-round picks: tackle Andrew Thomas, wide receiver Malik Nabers, quarterback Jaxson Dart, and guard Sisi Mauigoa. Add in third-round talents like wideout Jalin Hyatt and rookie Malachi Fields, and the offense is loaded with high-end potential.

Interestingly, two of the most respected "Way Too Early" 2027 mock drafts—from Dane Brugler and Todd McShay—point to different needs. McShay has the Giants taking a defensive player, while Brugler mocks an offensive weapon. Brugler highlights Oklahoma interior lineman Stone as a potential long-term replacement for Dexter Lawrence II, while McShay tabs Indiana wideout Becker as a breakout candidate with elite speed and catch radius.

Of course, it's far too early to seriously discuss the 2027 draft. But the contrast in these early mocks raises a valid question: Which side of the ball needs the most reinforcements? With the offense already stacked and the defense playing catch-up, the Giants' front office will have plenty to weigh as they continue building for the future.
