Even legends have off days—and Jasprit Bumrah is no exception. The Mumbai Indians' pace spearhead has had a challenging IPL 2026 so far, managing just two wickets in eight matches. In their latest outing against Sunrisers Hyderabad, Bumrah went wicketless and conceded 54 runs in four overs as SRH chased down MI's massive total of 243/5 with ease.
Despite the numbers, MI batting coach Kieron Pollard has come out in strong support of the star pacer. "When a cricketer isn't doing well, we analyze every aspect—and Jasprit Bumrah is no different," Pollard told reporters. "He's done this for years. As a human being, you're entitled to make mistakes, have a bad day, or even a rough couple of months. We need to remember all the good he's done."
Pollard emphasized that even a bowling genius deserves some patience. "Yes, he hasn't been up to mark, but he's still been the No. 1 bowler for Mumbai Indians and India over a long period. We cricketers are always in the public eye, so our failures get highlighted. Sometimes, we just need a little slack."
The former West Indies star is confident Bumrah will return stronger. "I know he's going to bounce back with greater heights and take wickets. Soon, we'll all be singing 'Bumrah-Bumrah' again—not just for Mumbai Indians, but for India too."
Pollard also acknowledged MI's struggle to deliver a complete performance this season but dismissed any talk of the team being out of contention. For now, all eyes remain on Bumrah—a bowler whose talent is undeniable, even when the results don't tell the full story.
