Iowa women's basketball has made a splash in the transfer portal, securing a commitment from high-scoring guard Bria Medina. The move, first reported by the Des Moines Register's Chad Leistikow, brings a proven scorer to the Hawkeyes' backcourt.
Medina arrives from Knox College in Galesburg, Illinois, where she ranked as the second-highest scorer in all of Division III last season. Standing at 5-foot-6, the Tucson, Arizona native averaged an eye-popping 23.6 points per game on 46.9% shooting, including 35.6% from beyond the arc and 86.9% from the free-throw line. She also contributed 5.3 rebounds, 4.0 assists, and 2.7 steals per game for the Prairie Fire.
Her junior season was nothing short of spectacular. Medina reached the 30-point mark five times, including a career-high 40-point outburst on January 27. Over three seasons at Knox, she amassed 1,524 points in 78 games, averaging 19.5 points per contest.
Medina is the fourth transfer portal addition for the Hawkeyes this cycle, joining Georgia guards Dani Carnegie and Jocelyn Faison, as well as Oklahoma State wing Amari Whiting. With one year of eligibility remaining, she brings veteran leadership to a roster that now features 11 players following the commitment of Swedish forward Ella Strömdahl, who will join as a freshman in 2026-27.
As of May 13, Medina and Whiting are the only seniors on the squad, giving Iowa a mix of experience and young talent. The Hawkeyes' roster may now be finalized at 11 players, according to Leistikow.
For Iowa fans, this addition signals a commitment to reloading after key departures. Medina's ability to score from all three levels and her defensive prowess make her a valuable asset as the Hawkeyes look to compete in the Big Ten and beyond.
