The Indy Ignite are making history—and they're doing it in dramatic fashion. On Friday night, the team shattered the Major League Volleyball record for most wins in a single season, coming from behind to defeat the visiting Columbus Fury in a thrilling five-set battle at Fishers Event Center.
With the 25-22, 20-25, 18-25, 25-18, 15-13 victory, the Ignite secured their 22nd win of the season, surpassing the previous record of 21 wins set by Omaha last year. The win also marked their 12th consecutive home victory, cementing the Fishers Event Center as one of the toughest venues in the league.
After dropping two of the first three sets, the Ignite showed the resilience that has defined their record-breaking campaign. Head coach Lauren Bertolacci credited the team's belief and determination. "We said in the locker room that we're playing to get the record today, and we put a team out there that we believed we could do that with," she said. "I'm super pumped—it was one of the most fun games of the season. That was our first five-setter at home, so it was really exciting."
Rookie sensation Emma Halter, an Indy native, delivered a standout performance with 20 digs, five assists, and a 76 percent positive reception rate. Her energy was infectious. "We looked at each other, and we're like, 'We are not losing!'" Halter recalled. "I looked at Ainise (Havili) in the fourth set and said, 'I don't care what happens or what this looks like, but we're winning!' It was really fun to see us just come together and finish."
Outside hitter Emoni Bush led the scoring charge with 24 points, tallying 20 kills, two blocks, and two service aces.
At 22-5 overall, the Ignite close out the regular season on Sunday when they host San Diego at 3 p.m. Looking ahead, the No. 1-seeded Ignite will face No. 4 Omaha in the MLV Championship semifinals at Comerica Center in Frisco, Texas—a rematch of last year's semifinal showdown. With momentum and history on their side, the Ignite are ready to make another run at the title.
