The Indianapolis Motor Speedway has unveiled the pace car that Indiana football coach Curt Cignetti will drive to start the 110th Indianapolis 500 on May 24. The two-toned Corvette ZR1X features a patriotic USA-themed design, complete with white and blue paint and bold red stripes running down the middle.
The car is part of IMS and IndyCar's "United We Race" campaign, celebrating the 250th birthday of the United States. The hood is adorned with stars representing the states, though a few were removed to accommodate the car's ventilation system. "We thought what an epic time to actually embrace the flag and show that on this livery right here," said Phil Zak, Chevrolet's Global Executive Design Director.
This year's pace car continues a rich tradition of iconic Chevrolet Corvettes leading the field at the world's greatest race. From the 2024 Corvette E-Ray to the 2023 Z06 and the 2025 ZR1 driven by Michael Strahan, each year brings a new chapter in Indy 500 history. For fans and collectors alike, the pace car represents the perfect intersection of speed, style, and American pride—a fitting tribute for the 250th anniversary of the nation.
Whether you're gearing up for race day or just love the look of this patriotic ride, it's a reminder that the Indy 500 is about more than just speed—it's about celebrating the spirit of competition and country.
