The Iowa Hawkeyes are building serious momentum after their thrilling Elite Eight run in Ben McCollum's debut season. Their latest move? Securing a commitment from Illinois State transfer guard Ty'Reek Coleman, a dynamic young talent poised to make an immediate impact in Iowa City.

Coleman, a native of Aurora, Illinois, chose the Hawkeyes over Nebraska and several other suitors following a standout freshman campaign. The 6'2 guard proved to be a versatile and efficient scorer, averaging 10.0 points per game while shooting an impressive 50% from the field and 42% from three-point range. His 41.6% mark from deep led the Redbirds last season.

More than just a shooter, Coleman brings a well-rounded game. He started 19 games, seamlessly shifting between the starting lineup and a sixth-man role, and proved to be a reliable defender—a perfect fit for a Hawkeyes squad that finished 20th nationally in scoring defense. His ability to heat up quickly was on full display in eight games where he scored 16 or more points, including a 17-point outing against Auburn in the NIT.

This addition addresses a critical need for Iowa, which is reloading after a 24-13 season. The Hawkeyes are tasked with replacing their top three scorers, including All-Big Ten guard Bennett Stirtz. Coleman's scoring punch and defensive tenacity will be vital in filling that void.

The roster reshaping isn't done yet. Iowa is also considered the strong favorite to land St. Mary's transfer center Andrew McKeever, a 7'2 force who averaged 9.2 rebounds per game last season. Securing both Coleman and McKeever would signal that McCollum's Hawkeyes are not just rebuilding, but aggressively reloading for another deep March run.
