CHAMPAIGN, Ill. — It was a perfect Friday night for Illinois baseball, as the Illini opened their final home series with a dominant 12-0 run-rule victory over in-state rival Northwestern in just seven innings.

The fireworks started early. A seven-run explosion in the top of the third inning gave Illinois firm control of the game, setting the tone for a lopsided contest. The Illini weren't done there, adding four more runs in the fourth inning to effectively put the game out of reach and secure an early ending.

Collin Jennings led the offensive charge, driving in three runs and joining three other Illini in recording multiple hits on the night. It was a balanced attack that kept the Northwestern defense on its heels all evening.

On the mound, starter Regan Hall was nothing short of stellar. He earned his seventh win of the season, striking out seven batters over five scoreless innings. His command and composure set the foundation for the Illini's commanding win.

With the victory, Illinois improves to 25-23 on the season. The team will look to keep the momentum rolling in game two of the weekend series, with first pitch scheduled for 5:30 p.m. on Saturday.

Whether you're gearing up for game day or showing your Illini pride all season long, make sure you're outfitted in the latest baseball gear to support the team as they close out the regular season.
