The Hanover High football team is keeping things in the family. Meet Tyler Coady, the Hawks' new head coach—a familiar face who has been a key part of the program since 2018.

For the past three seasons, Coady served as offensive coordinator under Brian Kelliher, who is stepping down as head coach but staying on to lead the defense. Kelliher’s decision came as his son, Jake, prepares to graduate this spring. "Tyler's going to bring a youthful energy to the program," Kelliher said. "He's prepared for the job and he's got a lot of excitement. He's earned it. He's ready for it."

Coady, 30, is a Hanover graduate (class of 2014) who played cornerback at Division III Plymouth State. Now a seventh-grade special education teacher at Hanover Middle School, he’s been an assistant with the Hawks since 2018. "He's been a great sounding board for me," Kelliher added. "I've learned a lot from him."

The transition comes on the heels of a strong 7-4 season, which ended with a narrow 28-26 playoff loss to Archbishop Williams in the Division 5 Elite Eight. Despite losing starting quarterback Colin Arnold to injury in the second game, Hanover’s offense still managed to top 40 points in five games—a testament to Coady’s play-calling and preparation.

Coady credits former Hanover coach Chris Landolfi as a major influence. Landolfi, who went 68-36 with a Division 3 Super Bowl win in 2016, was Coady’s first head coach during his senior year. "He's a huge inspiration," Coady said. Landolfi now coaches at Archbishop Williams, where Coady’s younger brother, Sullivan, is also on staff.

Coady met with the team for the first time on April 29, and his message was clear: "I think my goal is just holding this team to the standard that we've had since I've been here." With a youthful energy, deep roots in the program, and a proven offensive mind, Coady is ready to lead the Hawks into a new era.
