Haldane boys soccer coach Ahmed Dwidar announced his resignation after helping deliver three Section 1 titles and a state championship in 2022.

After nearly a decade and a half of shaping the Haldane boys soccer program into a small-school powerhouse, head coach Ahmed Dwidar has officially stepped down. Dwidar, who led the Blue Devils to three Section 1 titles and the school's first-ever boys state championship in 2022, announced his resignation last week, closing a chapter defined by resilience and record-breaking success.

"I'm leaving this program without any regrets," Dwidar shared. "I'm so proud of what we accomplished—the kids, the families, and every coach who worked alongside me."

At just 39, Dwidar is stepping away to focus on his growing family, including an 11-month-old daughter. "Right now, it'll be good to have more time at home," he said. "I'll still be watching and studying the game, though. I'll never stop learning about soccer." While he didn't rule out a return to the sideline someday, his immediate priority is being a dad.

Dwidar's journey with Haldane began in 2009 as a junior varsity coach before taking over the varsity team in 2010. After a six-year run, he spent time as an assistant at Dutchess Community College and Walter Panas High School, then returned to Haldane during the pandemic-shortened 2020 season. The decision to come back paid off spectacularly in 2022, when the Blue Devils captured the Class C state championship with three nail-biting one-goal victories in the state tournament.

"When I came back, I knew we had potential—I wanted us to do something special, and we did," Dwidar recalled. "The program had just 14 kids my first year, and it's grown to 85. Haldane was always known for basketball and volleyball, but we carved out some space for soccer."

After sharing his decision with players and parents in a heartfelt message, describing his tenure as "one of the most rewarding experiences of my life," Dwidar was flooded with supportive calls and texts. "When people let you know you're appreciated and you'll be missed, it means so much," he said. "You get a little emotional."

For fans of the game and the Haldane community, Dwidar's legacy is one of growth, grit, and a state title that will be remembered for years to come. As for what's next? The coach may be off the field for now, but his love for the sport—and his impact on it—is far from finished.
